Here's Benjamin enjoying a book. He actually sat
through a whole reading of "Brown Bear" tonight. Usually he just forces the book closed and then tosses it somewhere, but tonight he seemed genuinely interested. Maybe he's getting used to our strange language.
We had a lot of fun with him today even though our time was short. We shot a few videos of him, but of course we left the cable at home that transfers the video to a computer. In a pinch, we can shoot a little video with our "still" camera.

This morning we went to church at a local Catholic church. Nina had one of her students escort us to the church. We met her on the first trip to Novosibirsk. Her name is Irina, and she enjoys speaking English with us Americans. She is from
Kazakhstan, but goes to school here. The mass was in three different languages. We didn't understand any of them. I did recognize the Lord's Prayer, spoken in German.

We had lunch today at an authentic Russian "
PECOTPAH." That's how you spell restaurant in Russian- or at least it's close. Once in a while I can actually read a sign over here. The food here was really good. We both had soup. The picture of the soup to the left is what I had. It consisted of diced ham, olives, dill, sour cream and a slice of orange. There's probably some other stuff in there too. Linda had
perogies filled with cherries for her entree. Very good.
We did end up going to the ballet this evening. We didn't have tickets when we arrived, but with Nina's help we managed to score a couple of seats for the going rate. The ballet was sold out, but like any somewhat major event, there were people with extra tickets looking to sell. The opera house here is quite spectacular. I'd have to say it's one of the most impressive structures here in Novosibirsk.

The ballet itself was outstanding. The whole production was top notch. I really kind of figured that I would be nodding off before the first curtain, but I found it to be quite entertaining. I took a picture at the very end. Two of the three ladies sitting to my left had their cell phones ringing during the production, so I felt right at home.
Well time to get some sleep. I just wanted to make a quick entry here, but of course it takes longer than expected.
Linda isn't feeling the best tonight. She really hopes she is not getting sick. If she is we probably won't be bringing Benjamin with us tomorrow. So let's hope a good night's rest will have her feeling better in the morning.
Ed
Thanks, Ed, for taking the time to do this blog. It really means a lot to us to know what you are doing and how things are going. I sure hope that Linda feels better in the morning so you can take Ben with you. He must be doing very well. He looks so self-satisfied all the time. Must approve of the family he is in. Love.
ReplyDeleteEd and Linda - Once again the pictures are great. I'm glad to hear Benjamin likes Brown Bear - its a good one. I have to say that the soup looks terrible to me - but you probably guessed that, I'm glad you enjoyed it. You lost me at "ham." We had five inches of snow over the weekend in Lincoln so that's keeping everyone busy! I hope Linda gets better its no fun to be sick when you're traveling. Love you all. Sara
ReplyDeleteEd & Linda - I can't believe how far away you are and yet how close you feel. Every time I read your updates, I find myself sitting here with a smile on my face. Thank you for inviting us into your life during this time and introducing us to Ben. It sounds like he and Leo will get along just fine! Anna R.
ReplyDeleteYou are having quite an adventure. Ben seems so happy when he is with you. I hope Linda is feeling better - after the long wait it would be too bad not to be able to take him with you but better you're all healthy for the trip home. Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for another great update! I hope that you are healthy for another BIG day tomorrow...You are definitely happy!
ReplyDeleteWe just got home from the Church Christmas Program. Won't be long before Ben and Charlie are memorizing lines for their Christmas programs.
Love,
Martha
What an adventure you two are having. Let me tell you...enjoy that sleeping in because it won't happen again until Ben goes off to college. That's what I hear anyway....well I guess its too late for that as you may have Ben with you for your next nights sleep. How exciting! We are always so anxious to check the blog whenever we come home from being away.
ReplyDeleteOur prayers are constantly with you and we continue to share your joy in becoming Mom and Dad.
Love to you,
Tricia
So, you're starting to understand Russian. I'm impressed. The soup looks OK, but then Ed will try pretty much everything. Glad you got to the ballet. Hope Linda feels better. Everytime I look at all your pictures and read your saga, it just make me feel happy. I'm sure when Ben moves in, you won't have much time to be documenting your experiences. Take care of each other. love...jan
ReplyDeleteOK I can understand the ballet being top notch, but the FOOD? I've had it and we must have eaten at different PECTOPAH's! Yikes. I must say the pierogies sound pretty darn good, however. Bears & Vikes play tonight... I know who Ben will be rooting for! (sorry, Linda! Who would have thought when we decorated our college dorm doors in the politically correct way, displaying both teams, that your son would be a Vikes van! Ha!) Love ya, Michelle
